Jiah Khan

Jiah Khan
20th February 1988 – 3rd June 2013

The sad news of the death of the Bollywood star Jiah Khan shocked us all and Bollywood Borrowed would like to dedicate this blog to Jiah.

Born on 20th February 1988 in the fabulous New York City, Jiah became a huge fan of Shakespeare after growing up in London, in which it became an influence into her Bollywood career. Jiah was a versatile dancer and opera singer, who had her dream debut in the 2007 film Nishabd and starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan. Jiah was taken back for just being considered this role, but although Nishabd wasn’t a huge box office hit, it did lead onto further film opportunities, a career that Jiah had always dreamt off.  Jiah was had more film contracts, in which further filming was due to start later this year.
Jiah turned 25 in February and managed to keep her private life, private and kept her name out of the limelight. As well her blossoming Bollywood career as an actress, Jiah was also a model for the famous Wrangler Jeans and became a brand ambassador for the prestigious Taj group of hotels. You’ll probably agree with us when we say Jiah being a model is no surprise, as she was stunning and a great actress.
Some of our favourite outfits worn by Jiah Khan are when she’s in those wonderful bold orange, yellow and red colours. So, here at Bollywood Borrowed, we’ve picked out some of our favourite outfits worn by Jiah.

If you’re also a fan of these colours, then we have a range of similar sarees for hire and lenghas’ including the “Bronze Butterfly”, the “Genevieve”, the “Latino Love” and the “Rose Petal”. So, if you want to create Jiah Khan’s look, take a browse at Bollywood Borrowed’s collection of lenghas and sarees for hire.

The Golden Statuette of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival

As always, the Cannes Film Festival brings to the red carpet all things glitz and glamour, so it was no surprise that the Bollywood babes stood out from the crowd. Bollywood stars included Aishwarya Rai and Sonam Kapoor, who both dazzled us their flawless, golden sarees. We think they both look stunning!
The gold theme was a tribute to the late Elizabeth Taylor for the amfAR Gala. The 39 year old (yes, she’s 39 and still looks amazing) graced the red carpet in a gold saree, accompanied by a gold blouse with heavy embroidery. Aishwarya won Miss World in 1994, which isn’t a surprise in and we would also like to add that she hasn’t aged since (jealous)! No wonder she has been named as the most beautiful woman in the world.

Another golden stunner to walk the red carpet at this year’s Cannes Film Festival was Sonam Kapoor, who picked a traditional vintage Indian outfit the French Rivera. She wore a white and gold saree by designer Anamika Khanna, with a trailing baroque-effect jacket to the screening of The Great Gatsby. She also wore an oversized nose ring, which certainly stands out, but again she’s another Bollywood beaut and one of our favourites.

We think that both Aishwarya and Karpoor looked stunning at the film festival, and if they have inspired you to create a similar Bollywood look, using the star studded gold colours, then here at Bollywood Borrowed, we have some similar sarees; Cherry Blossom which boasts shimmering gold hues, whilst creating a lavish look or our oriental inspired Zen saree in a subtle gold and pink colours.

But don’t worry, if you’re not a fan of the gold look, we have a selection of other bold and beautiful coloured sarees that we think will look perfect on you- take a look now at our exquisite collection

Bollywood Borrowed First Photo Shoot!

So we were super excited that the day finally came! After much late night preparation, negotiating and scouting, we finally made it to the first Bollywood Borrowed shoot! We were pleased to be accompanied by some of the finest in the industry; photographer Paul West, make-up artist Lubna Rafiq and stylist Seema Rani. Not to mention the drop dead gorgeous models!

Setting the scene...it was a gorgeous summer’s day in Clapham, the grass was green, the birds were chirping, the sun was shining and well…cue the madness. We were all running around arranging the beautiful outfits, sparkling jewellery and killer heels, not to forget the glamorous models!

First came hair and make-up; the brilliant Lubna worked her magic. The girls were transformed into bollywood beauties ready for the pièce de résistance - the outfits! Off to the dressing room to see Seema! She draped, she tied, she gathered, she smiled, but don’t be fooled, nothing got past this no nonsense creator! All finished off with a selection of glistening jewellery and a pair of extravagant stilettos of course.

Then we were ready to shoot, and with over 100 outfits to get through Paul had his work cut out, but needless to say the girls had the moves and Paul had the eye - it soon made for a perfect match.

Day one was soon finished. The team did well!

On day two we had some fresh faces and a few extra hands on board, and we were very excited to have the creative Uzma Rafiq join the team to help with the hair!

Straight to work, no messing – we still had a significant number of outfits to shoot! A few lattes, and chocolate croissants and off we went…we were on a roll! Snap, snap, snap. It’s not all glamorous – it’s hard work (ok.. so it’s a little glamorous J )

We couldn't finish the shoot without an extraordinary creative shot that we’d all been talking about, and we had the perfect collection of accessories in mind! Sabeeka pouted and posed perfectly to create the ultimate look!

A great team effort and a fantastic two days! Bollywood Borrowed was born!

Big thanks to everyone involved, and shout out to Arooj, Kayleigh Anne, Sabeeka IM, Tia Ward, Leena Nanavati, Adele Humphrey, Anita Borvanker, Davina and Sharita Jhumman as well as those I’ve already mentioned for all your help!
